Generation 3 Mars Series delivers upgrades



Cost-efficient, flexible and reliable, the third generation Haitian Mars III is more powerful and economical than ever before with mechanical, hardware and software upgrades. Mars III IMMs are available in clamping forces from 67 to 3,709 U.S. tons (600 to 33,000 kN) for solutions to all standard applications. The Mars III is precise and reliable in the movements of all axes, thanks to Motion Plus and a new generation of servo-hydraulic drives – tailor-made and cost-efficient.


The Mars III comes with a brand new state-of-the-art KEBA controller, redesigned to suit modern-day injection molding needs.


Optimized drives (Motion Plus) improve accuracy and responsiveness. An open communication strategy (Connectivity Plus) for automation and business interfaces leaves the customer free to choose integration partners and improve business operations, increasing processing and production flexibility.


Injection unit improvements include:

  • Injection unit speed increases ranging from six percent to 19 percent on models under 1,200 tons and three percent to five percent on models over 1,200 tons, facilitating shorter cycle times

  • Plasticizing components newly designed for increased pressure and injection speeds

  • Injection carriage and injection movement supported by linear guides with a lower friction coefficient, higher operational accuracy and lower energy consumption

  • New high-performance servo drive system for injection acceleration (100 milliseconds versus 200 milliseconds in earlier generations) and deceleration response during injection; more precise back pressure control

  • Swiveling injection unit for quick screw and barrel changeover as standard

  • Highly dynamic power unit based on new internal gear pump featuring high speeds, low noise and high efficiency with the integration of high-performance servo motor


Clamp unit improvements include:

  • Optimized platen design for centralized force transmission to the mold

  • Graphite/steel bushings providing better lubrication and lower lubrication consumption, improving the life of the clamping unit

  • Improved repeatability of mold opening and closing by optimization of the overall clamp structure, oil circuit and programming – 1 mm for machines ranging from 67 to 250 tons; 2mm for machines from 280 to 600 tons

  • Flexible part drop area with an open base on the front side to accommodate part removal conveyors

"We provide the customer an intelligent machine for connectivity with all common interfaces, enabling freedom of choice in and seamless, open connection to, integration partners. In this way, the highly standardized Mars III machines can be easily integrated into automated processes, cells and production lines as required – maximizing flexibility with the best possible productivity,” says Ortolano. Features include:

  • Versatile communication interfaces, interoperability protocols and device integration functions based on all internationally common interfaces such as Euromap 77, 82 and 83

  • Remote monitoring – monitor process conditions, alarms and more from an external location

  • Remote access – connects control directly to Absolute Haitian for remote support

  • Based on OPC Unified Architecture (OPC-UA) Standards – open integration with all common interfaces for seamless connection of MES systems (machine to business) and industrial automation


At a Glance: Motion Plus

The Motion Plus firmware is the bundling of already established and new developments for intelligent motion control enabling extremely responsive control. "This may not sound spectacular at first, but given the enormous manufacturing power and service capacities, this technological advance is taking on new significance," says Ortolano. Enhancements include:

  • Tailor-made hydraulic and electric units for fast reaction and more precise tuning

  • High-speed real-time fieldbus with large bandwidths

  • High-precision closed-loop control of the injection process

  • Proprietary Servo Drive to Motor Parameterization for precise velocity / pressure control
